The South Fork of the Snake River is a blue ribbon trout river, world renowned for its fighting native cutthroat trout. Frequent dignitaries such as U.S. Vice President, Dick Cheney, fish near the Blue Heron Inn.

Fly fishing in the area is outstanding, especially when guests float the river in McKenzie River boats. The Inn is supported by a number of very reputable and qualified river guide companies.
